A word from the Lists...

I, Daniel, gave my life to Christ on October 16, 1994. It was then, at the age of 14, that I was able to overcome the fear that had been holding me back from accepting Christ as my personal Savior. From the day I accepted Christ, I have had the goal of serving God in full time Christian service.

My involvement with SCEI began in 1999 while I was a student at Clearwater Christian College. I volunteered to help in any way I could. In the beginning that included licking stamps and stuffing envelopes, but God had bigger plans. During that time, God began to develop a burden in my heart for the ministry of SCEI. My involvement grew to include serving on sports and construction ministries as well as donating time on a regular basis to work at the headquarters in Tennessee. In December of 2001, I received my bachelors degree in business administration with a minor in Bible and computer science. For the 3 years following graduation, I worked as the assistant network manager at Clearwater Christian College and youth leader at Emmanuel Baptist Church. In 2002, I was invited to become a member of SCEI's board of directors. I accepted that responsibility and increased my involvement with SCEI.

Dana accepted Christ when she was five. She always had a burden for missions and the desire to be involved in ministry. Dana’s first experience with SCEI took place when she was 15. She traveled into Mexico with a ladies college basketball team as a helper. That trip had such an impact on her life that she felt led to study Spanish for three years. The Lord has prepared Dana for serving in this ministry by blessing her in the areas of language, medicine and organization. She has worked as a Registered Nurse in the areas of critical care and emergency medicine since completing her nursing education in 2002. She is currently working towards a Master's degree in hopes that it will allow more opportunities for SCEI to share the gospel through medical ministries.

In 2004 we were unanimously voted into SCEI as full time missionaries. On January 23, 2005, I was commissioned by my home church of Emmanuel Baptist Church and we moved to Monteagle, TN. Shortly after our move we went out on deputation, and God blessed us by providing a solid base of supporters. I was eager to begin serving in the office in the newly created position of director of ministry operations. I continue to serve as the director of ministry operations and have since assumed the position of Vice President.

I have many responsibilities as I assist David Gordon in the leadership of SCEI. The core of my daily tasks revolve around the administration of the organization. I monitor legal and financial matters, assist on foreign ministries, direct foreign ministries, maintain all office and missionary computers I also manage all items related to technology including design of promotional materials and our websites, GoSCEI.com and BuscandoLaVerdad.com.

God has used many things in my life to prepare me for this position. The first and most important part of his training was provided by my parents. As a child, I had godly examples of what it meant to love the Lord and serve Him in every area of life. A Christian education from kindergarten through college supported my parents training by providing a solid biblical foundation and placing emphasis on Christian service. Other activities including serving at church, playing sports and starting my own business gave me valuable experience in many different areas. Godly family members, teachers, pastors and friends were all used by God as He shaped me into the person He wanted me to be in order to serve with SCEI in this capacity.

Dana is a wonderful wife, mother and nurse. Her priorities center around the care of me, our children and our home. I'm so thankful that I have her standing beside me. Her kindness and compassion are evident as she looks for opportunities to help those in need. She is a strong support to me both while serving here at the SCEI headquarters in Tennessee, and while ministering abroad Latin America.  We are looking forward to our children playing a more active role in the ministry as they get older. It is our prayer that God would give our children a burden for ministry and the desire to serve Him.

We currently have two lively children. Noah was born on March 6, 2006, and Hannah was born on November 14, 2007. Noah loves climbing, running, singing and chasing cats. Hannah is a sweet little girl that looks for opportunities to give hugs, loves shoes and collects rocks. They have both been a part of several ministries including outreaches to Nicaragua, Mexico, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Panama and here in the United States.

I would like to share some highlights from a recent ministry. Many times we come up with a plan that seems just perfect. We think about it, we pray about it and we plan out the details. We are certain that God is going to do a miraculous work. Well, sometimes God proves His sovereignty by canceling our best plan in order to do something much greater. One example of this was when our youth group ministry was scheduled to go to Mexico during the summer of 2009. Sharing the gospel with the Indians in the mountain villages of Veracruz, Mexico was our burden. They were an unreached group to which our local partnering church had been preparing to minister. The plans were in place, and we were filled with anticipation as the 30 hour drive to Veracruz drew close. Instead, the swine flu came along and infected that area, and God changed our plans. He sent us in the opposite direction to the shores of Lake Erie in northern Ohio to serve in a local church. We loaded three minivans and made the journey to the campground we would call home for the next two weeks. We did not expect the constant stream of storms which made sleeping in tents quite interesting. Some nights the wind was so strong that the tent ceiling served as another blanket. Some mornings we would exit the tent already having had our bath for the day. As we had our 45 minutes of personal devotions followed by 60 minutes of group devotions each morning, God would remind us that He was in control, and He had a specific purpose for every circumstance we encountered during the ministry.

Serving at the church in Ohio provided a great opportunity for God to work in the lives of our team members. Each individual worked very hard, was challenged with jobs they had never done before and ended each day completely exhausted. Our activities included hanging drywall, painting the sanctuary, spraying mold in the crawlspace, leading a marriage conference, planning a VBS, handing out fliers to every home in the community, leading a 5 session VBS, sharing the Gospel at a local park and being completely amazed the whole time at what God was doing.

The highlight came a few days after we returned home. Clyde, a 15 year old team member, gave his heart to Christ as a result of our time there. God taught us what a joy it could be to be servants. While sleeping in tents at a local campground, starting our day at 6:30am and working until 9:00pm, were not what any of us would typically do for fun, but God was in control. He always has a plan, and His plan is always best.
